why does small dynamesh models have very low poly count at highest res setting?

Greetings,

I used dynamesh at higheset res setting to sculpt a full female figure from a polysphere and can get close to a million polys, which is fine.

When I detach a hand from the figure as a subtool, I can’t get more than 9,000 polys even at highest res setting.

One would assume that it will be able to reach at least a million polys since it is anotyher tool altogether.

Any solutions?

What is your Tool>Geometry>Resolution setting under the DynaMesh button?

Could you show a screen shot of your entire interface, including the title bar?

isn’t dynamesh resolution also tied directly to the size of the object as well?
What happens if you do a unify deformation on the hand and then apply the dynamesh?

Thank you for gthe responses.

After reading more about dynamesh, I guess the resolution even at dynamesh setting of 1024 is tied to that 1024 x 1024 pixels cube projection.

So, beta channel, you are right, it is tied to object size in relation to the largest subtool in the project.

I suppose dynamesh works great when there is:

  1. only one subtool in the project

  2. many subtools of roughly the same size; the more cuboid the subtool, the higher res you can get.

Would future versions of ZB overcome this limitation?

Thank you for your time and responses, aurick and beta_channel.
