why cant I set different materials for subtools :(

Using 4 R2. So I make sure mrgb is on and I select fill object. Though as soon as I select a different material it changes?! I’m trying to assign a custom tweaked skinshade4 to the skin and another custom tweaked skinshade4 to the eyes.

so am I doing something wrong? I don’t recall this problem with 4.0

That would do it. Material assignment is PolyPaint and texture always supersedes PolyPaint in the render priorities. If you have a texture applied, that is what you will see.

What you can do is assign your texture and convert it to PolyPaint. You can then select Draw>M and fill your model with just the desired material. If you want you can then convert that back to texture as well. In this case, ZBrush will see that material data is included in the PolyPaint and it will use an alpha channel within the texture to define the material indices.
