Which workflow?

Hi guys.

I’ve been off these boards for around 2 years now, so trying to catch up with all the new stuff that’s gone into Zbrush 3.5/4

The one thing that I still can’t get into is zspheres, and their use as a base mesh to begin creating a character. I love the idea of them, the fact that you can get some really quick poses down. But the whole topology thing seems to really bog them down.

So my question is, do people use these now or do most people still create their base models in another package? It just seems to me that creating zspheres, then retopoligizing takes longer then just creating a nice topology from scratch in another package. I’ve read that the new adaptive skin makes good topology, is this true?

My second question is to do with adaptive skin. From what I’ve read it seems to me that there’s two ways of doing this. One is using the adaptive skin button, the other is re-mesh. Is there any advantage to one or the other?

Looking forward to what you guys think

workflow really all depends on you.
If you like to be free in your art then i suggest zspheres, then a retopo.
if you know exactly what you want to make and you’re faster in a traditional app then start there and finish in Zbrush.

It really all depends on what you’re doing, and what works best for you.
I myself prefer to work in zspheres, do a mid level sculpt, retopo, project and then finish.

Adaptive skin can give you some good results, but not as well as doing it by hand. Remesh and adaptive skin are basically the same thing, same with unified skin. They are just different algorithms for generating geometry.

Thanks for the reply.

I think for my next project I’ll have a go at starting from zsheres. They seem a lot more solid then back in the Zbrush 2 days.
