Where's the initialize

Ok… not understanding something here in zbrush 4.

I created a ztool from a primitive plane. Sculpted it up. Yay!

Next I appended the ring as a subtool. Upon doing so I noticed that it did not have the initialize menu item in the tool menu.

I ended up opening a new document, created the ring from scratch and modified it with it’s initialize. Then I left edit mode, cleared the canvas. Reconstituted the plane subtool and appended in the modified ring. That seems laborious to me. Is there a way to keep initialize on for sub tools?

Any info would help.

Thanks,

When appending a parametric mesh, Z4 will auto-convert it to PolyMesh3D since this is what you need for further sculpting. So, you need to adjust the initialize value before you append the mesh to another tool.

If you must have the parametric mesh appended intact, then you need to do the following…

  1. Select “Append”.
  2. Press and hold the SHIFT key, click on the mesh which you want to append and then move the cursor outside the popup window.

The popup window will close and you’ll be presented with an option to append without conversion.
