Where oh where did my micromesh go?

Hey, I’m puzzled. I want to try using micromesh, but when I look in display properties, my “select micromesh” button is nowhere to be found. I’ve tried using polymesh3ds, standard primitives, etc…I’ve also made sure my “Draw Micromesh” is turned on in the render pallette. Any words of wisdom?
