where is my original model after i EXTRACT?

hi,

so i’ve been using zb again recently and i’ve been sculpting a chick’s head with several subtools.

i had to do an extract for her eyebrows and i got the nice geometry pieces i wanted for the eyebrows but now i was in an eyebrows tool and no longer on my chick’s head tool.

i’ve used the tool slider and after sliding around with that fiddly little slider, i’ve ended up back on my head tool with all its subtools still intact and then i append the extracted eyebrows.

but other than sliding that fiddly little slider to find my original tool again, is there a specific location where it is? it doesn’t seem to be the tool just before the current extracted tool.

am i doing this a stupid way and there’s an easy way to avoid this?

p.s. and is there a better way to browse for tools except to slide around that tiny, fiddly little slider? kinda frustrating when it jumps through 20 tools per pixel moved…

thanks.

What method are you using for the extraction? If it’s the button under Subtools, then it should just neatly create the extraction as a new subtool and leave the current mesh still active and selected.

As for switching tools without the slider, the tools should all be loaded and visible in the tool palette underneath the slider. Clicking on the active tool thumbnail should also bring up a menu.

hmmm,

interesting. yeah, that’s the extract button that i used… actually is there another one somewhere?

i just tried it right now at home and it worked as you describe. but on the model i was sculpting i was in fact booted into a separate tool for the extracted mesh and had to find my way back to my original mesh… that happened several times actually.

hmmmm… bug? anyway, as long as it’s not SUPPOSED to be that convoluted, my faith is restored.

ohhhh… and i just realized why that fiddly little slider is so fiddly - i have 49 entries in there and i just realized that includes the 2d and 2.5d brushes… alright. yeah, choosing the way you suggested works much better. thanks!
