it said coming soon for a while?
Welcome to Pixologic support system.
I bought the Mac version only because they said 3.5 was going to be released in December.
Basically, they have taken my money and run.
I am now stuck with a program with no ZMapper or ZApplink. BUt, Hey, they got my money.
I’d like to point out that Pix has NOT said that Zapplink, Zmapper, etc. will be available with ZB3.5
//Begin Rant Mode//
The have only said that ZB 3.5 will be unified in their code base. Having been down this road with Pixologic (since the early days of ZB), they can still say "Well, those are plugins, we never said that all plugins will be available for the Mac . . . "
I wouldn’t put any faith in Pixologic’s pronouncements about the next version of anything. (Anyone out there remember ZB 2.5 that never appeared?)
My advise: don’t use Zbrush based on any expectation of future improvements. It will only lead to bitterness and disappointment. Dates mean nothing at Pixologic–they have a long history of ignoring those. Right now we’re just in waiting game (vis-a-vis the Mac) all they have said recently is that we’ll get “more information” in the 1st quarter about ZB3.5. I take that as codewords that we’ll here more about the new dates for ZB3.5 (or maybe will just hold out until ZB4).
They know they’ve fouled up what little Mac base they have and they have (through actions versus words) made it clear, Pixologic does need or care about Mac users. Your choices are clear: continue to be disappointed in the Zbrush releases for the Mac (which have been disfunctional at best since 2005) or simply run Zbrush in Bootcamp (as I have done for nearly two years now.) A fully-functional mac-native version with feature parity to the PC version is a mirage. Even if they should come out with a working Mac version, they will not maintain it (everyone remember how well ZB2 worked on Intel-based macs?)
(Heck, they can’t even make their uber-paranoid licensing system work right on PC’s with RAID setups . . .)
The only good thing is that new entrants in their market space (3Dcoat, Mudbox) may force Pixologic to take a more market-based approach, rather than their current lie, decieve & deflect, and ultimately fail to deliver on their promises.
(Love the software–hate the company.)
FWIW,
