When is the best time to unwrap UVW's ??

Hi guys!

I’ve started work on a model inside ZB, i’ve created my base mesh using zspheres, and now I have 3 SubD levels on it so far, so it;s fairly low poly - around 10.000.

I now want to take it inside 3D Max 8 for UVW unwrapping and then reimport it inside ZB for detailing. I also want to remove a lot of polys from the palms and feet area, because I discovered that using zsphere base in those areas, creates waaaayyy too many polys, so I’ll have to optimize them.

My problem/question is this:

So, after finishing UVW work and mesh optimizing, I will import my new OBJ inside ZB, hit UV Groups, and so on and start deviding/detailing…

Ok, when I’ll be done with all the detailing/texturing and It will be time to go back to MAX for Displacement Mapping, can I export a higher-poly version of the mesh than the one I started with (the one I optimized in the first place) and take IT inside MAX, but still have the (now more complex) UVWs unwrapped ???

OR, must I export the very same version I’ve imported from MAX, in order to have the uvw’s unwrapped ???

I hope you can understand what im asking, so please help !

As for the zsphere issue, you need a little practice.

Can’t help you with Max, don’t use it and it’s a Zbrush thread. However if you do a search of th eforum, quite a few people post workflows they use to do what you are trying.
