When I save zspheres in a document I can no longer edit on re-open

When I save a file that I have modeled with zspheres and I try to reopen it it comes back as a mesh instead of the spheres and I can’t get back to edit the spheres. On that note when I open a saved file it comes back in draw mode and I can’t enter edit mode without opening a new document and redrawing the tool… I’m a newb so forgive me. Any help?

I’m no expert by any means… but the answer is in your question. when you save out as a Document you can no longer treat your spheres as a model. What you should have done was save it as a subtool. Why Zbrush has a “Save as Document tool” and Native 2.5D as your starting point is beyond me…

I wish Zbrush just made 2.5D as an option. Who starts Zbrush these Days primarily to make 2D art? For many Users its a modeling package. I wish Pix would take all the 2D stuff, pace all of it in its own tab, and make Zbrush native 3D modeling. It would save us Noobies alot of heart ache. I’m sure many pros still get caught in the 2.5d trap at times.

Don’t get me wrong, as an artist I respect the 2.5D option, as Well as the Paintstop plugin.

sorry for the rant… just irritating.

+1
Pixologic should focus on what they do best - 3D Organic Modeling and Easy exporting of normal/displacement maps

I tried out ZB 1.23 out YEARS ago and didn’t know what it was capable of, thought it was more of a 2D package - If I had only known back then that it was awesome at 3D, I would have been working at ILM now because I would have had 10 years experience on ZB

Well, since they have the 2.5D developed, just move it to a tab, an option to switch the canvas to that format.

As a designer and illustrator who uses Zbrushes 2.5d capability regularly, I dont see what is gained by making the 2.5 functions less accessible than they are right now. The highy useful 2.5D functionality has already been degraded in recent versions, it doesnt need any more hits.

The only problem is the different save functions need more dummy-proof labels and explanations. They could be more clear, and the prompt you get while saving the document should be more emphatic that you arent saving geometry. Save Document could be called “Save Canvas Only”. Also, If the various save functions where located in the same menu, the difference would also be more readily apparent.

Alternately, people could just read the freaking manual for the 600$ cutting edge software they just bought. It is not an issue for anyone who reads the “getting started” section of the documentation, but not everyone does that, for some reason.

no. Put the 2.5D in a tab. all you have to do is activate it. not less convenient for you. just a Tool function put in a proper tab. make Zbrush native 3D.

ok sorry for the abrupt post last thread. I was at work on my feet pushing a cart with a laptop on it. Ya, I’m a blue collar slob. Work in materials… hate it.

But I digress… My point was that widely Zbrush is seen as a 3D Modeling tool. Pixol advertises Zbrush as such. Not a 2.5D tool with some 3D application. I respect the 2.5D ability. I can’t say I have seen it in any other package.

When you start to model an object in a 3D package, your first thought should not be, hmmm i have to make this object 3D. When you layout a primative it should already be a pollymesh 3d. If I accidentally tap my pen on the tablet before i make it to the make pollymesh 3d button, I’m screwed. then I have to relay that primative, Plane, or Subtool. This may seem trivial, but it distracts from the creative process and takes more time.

If 2.5D was an option that needed to be turned on, then the emersion would not be interrupted.

Did I go through the all of the class room vids? yes. I learned alot. I also have seen many of Jason Walsh’s Vids.
