what is the purpose of the cavity map, and how ( where) would it be applied in the 3d application ( maya) for rendering ? I mean would it help enhance the displacement maps final render??

Cavities are the small crevices and wrinkles where the dirt and dust tend to accumulate, in buildings, skin, weapons…
I tend to use it in my diffuse texture to give a dirt pass in the most ocluded areas, for the specular is the same, because something dirty won’t have as much brightness as a clean part.
It’s up to you how to use it
