What's the Document Size Limit in ZBrush 4r4 p2?

OK

  1. I created a document in an external paint program to a size of 4096X8192.

  2. Save it as a jpeg, and import it into the texture pallet.

  3. Press the Crop and fill button in the texutre pallet.

  4. Check your document size.

I tried this out and ZB4R4p2 loaded a document 9000 x 6600 (22"x30") but would not create a document this way at 12000 x 12000 - it would load it into the texture but crashed when I crop to fill as document.

So what is the limit of the document size in ZB4R4p2?

The maximum size for a ZBrush document in 8192 x 8192. That’s also the maximum size you can create a texture. You may be able to import a larger size texture but ZBrush will probably become unstable, so it’s not recommended.

The 8K document size should be adequate for most purposes - that’s equivalent to a magazine/art book quality print of 27 inches square (300 ppi).
