So when sculpting high resolution details like clothing seams and wrinkles…what’s first?? Sculpting the seams or the wrinkles?
If you try to put the wrinkles first you will need to use your minds eye to figure out how the seams should look, whereas if you sculpt the seams first you can then push and pull your wrinkles into place without having to think about where the seams are supposed to go. Imagine if you were doing something like a plaid shirt. Now that would be a nightmare to sculpt the pattern in and get it to look right if you sculpted the wrinkles first!
On the other hand, for doing a complex pattern like a plaid shirt one could put a UV map on the initial form and then apply a texture map of the plaid pattern. From there one would just sculpt away putting in wrinkles and what not and then one could extract the pattern as a sculptural element by making a mask from the pattern via Masking->Mask By Color->Mask By Intensity and then using something like Deformation -> Inflate to engrave or emboss the pattern onto the surface.
You’ll find that with Zbrush there are numerous ways of doing things. So, just experiment around and see what ways feel right for you.
Thanks friend!
