Is there a list of brushes that will modify vertex count?
I am working on morphs for DAZ Studio figures and want to be able to make morph targets without issue.
Thanks in advance for all your help!

The only sculpting brushes that alter the vertex count are the Insert Mesh ones. So you can use any sculpting brush except those.
Just be aware that other techniques such as DynaMesh change the topology. And obviously dividing the model to create subdivision levels will add to the vertex count.
Wow. … so Clip and Curve won’t change the vertex count?
insert, slice, and trim will also change your vertex count.
Yes, of course, I was forgetting Slice and Trim.
The Slice Curve and Trim Curve brushes will change the vertex count. However the Clip Curve brush do not. These are all brushes you hold Shift+Ctrl to select, so you can’t use them by accident.
Naturally any of the Curve brushes that create new polygons will change the vertex count.
Anyway, if you are creating morph targets then I suggest you mostly use the Move and Standard brushes.
Well, yes, of course but I also use Dam-Standard, Inflate, ClayBuidlup as well. I was wondering what ones change the vertex count and which ones are safe so I can dig itno the oines I am unsure about with more fervor if they do not alter vertex count.
You can easily test a brush if you are anxious. Simply have a simple mesh such as a sphere with at least one subdivision level for testing purposes. You cannot use any of the brushes that change vertex count when the mesh has subdivision levels, so you will get a warning message saying ‘delete or freeze subdivision levels’. You’ll then know to avoid using that brush.
Good to know, marcus! Thanks!
