I suspect that the problem is your BMP bit depth. You should use a 24 bit BMP.
Aurick,
Is there a way to import a 16bit image into Zbrush?
None that I’m aware of, but I’ll check for you. As far as I know, the best is simply to resave it as 24 bit with Photoshop.
If you have a 16bit image in Photoshop it won’t let you save it to 24bit .bmp.
Right?
Hi Skycastle, in Photoshop just change the RGB TIFF to 8 bits and then save as BMP with 24 bits enabled. Hope this helps
You can import a 16bit/channel Photoshop file (.psd) but interesting things happen to the colour channels for RGB if you try to load it as a texture. Grayscale works for alphas though.

I cant import any 16bit formats into Zbrush right now.
16bit BW .tif
16bit BW .psd
Cant create 16bit .bmp data.
I need to be able to displace my mesh with a 16bit map( 8bit creates stairsteps ). Zbrush has a feature to do this with 8bit data. It also is able to create and export 16bit grey scale map. I dont understand why you cant I import them?
UPDATE!
I was able to import a 16 bit image as a PSD file! In photoshop you must convert the image to greyscale before you save. So 16bit greyscale .psd files seam to work fine with Zbrush when you import them into the Alpha menu.
