What is this called and how do I fix it?

Could someone please tell me why my model is doing this?

I’m not even sure what to call this so I can’t search for a solution.

The original model was an obj that was created in modo. It has a uv map on it that was also created in modo. The original mesh was clean and I had be sculpting back and forth between 4 division levels with no problems until one time this happened and now it won’t stop. Someone please enlighten me.

Did you GoZ back into Modo then back to ZB?

point order or vertex winding order.

As AlienBorn asked. Did you switch back and forth between programs for any reason? Inside that other program did you change anything? The winding order is very important because it tells zbrush what vert is where. It also tells it what verts are created during subD level creation and edit. If you change the vert order by editing the mesh in an outside application then you lose the vert order you had before, so when you import into Zbrush it will loose your subD levels and create the work of modern art you have before you.

I didn’t know you could actually do this inside of 4.0 though as it will inform you when you’ve changed your winding order and try to project the new mesh onto the old one.
