what is the best tool for sketching in 4R6 ? Zspheres, Zsketch,Dynamesh or...?

I am finally going to start using Zbrush after owning it for so many years. So I am a rank beginner. I can fumble my way around the interface and do other basics.

I want to play with adding muscles to single bones…actually two bones. But just playing.

What is the best sketching workflow to use? Something that will just allow me to do crude forms.

thanks for any pointers to links or opnions on this subject.

DynaMesh is probably the quickest and easiest way to pull out basic forms.

thanks, I wasn’t sure if there was something in the R6 release that was different.

You can sketch directly on the canvas and paint/‘sculpt’ in 2.5D mode. After that you could use Pixols to 3D or grab alpha from document and make 3D if you want to work in 3 D mode. Or the other methods. ShadowBox is also a good starting point. I like ZSphere armatures. Whatever works for your needs.

I am not looking to sketch in 2d or 2.5d. Thanks though. I was not clear. I was looking for the most efficient way to create 3D thumbnail ideas for character shapes I want.

I appreciate your help. Sorry if I was confusing.

as the other poster said. dynamesh…and zremesher…totally amazing.

using only dynamesh and the brushes: move, inflate and smooth, you can create just about anything in minutes.

from zero to sixty nothing is faster than zbrush and those 4 things are zbrush reduced to it’s essence.

thanks zeddie

I think shadowbox combined with dynamesh would be a good option. I saw it in a Ryan Kingslien anatomy workshop. Basically you’d have the bone as a subtool and then you append a sphere or whatever, doesn’t really matter. Then you go to Geometry > Shadowbox. Now you can just paint a mask on the sides of the box to create a shape in 3d space. Once you’ve done that, turn off shadowbox and turn it into a dynamesh for freeform sculpting.

Here’s link to the demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8ddai3624U

Thanks Mosley that was fascinating. I will have to try playing with that. Thank you for the link. Wish I was rich enough to take Ryan’s class on anatomy…but alas I have not the money nor the time. But it is always wonderful to see a master at work.

Edit…just found that Ryan’s Anatomy class is available at less than half what it was on Visualarium. I think I am going to indulge myself and take his course.
