What do you suggest?

I’m a newbie at Zbrush…I’m determined to master it! I’ve seen a lot of great artists posting in the Gallery and it truly inspired me to learn and improve.

As a newbie to ZBrush…( in your opinion ) what would you suggest is the best way to start a sculpt from scratch? What methods might work best for someone like me? I watched a few videos how to toy around with ZSpheres. I got that down somewhat.

I’ve also noticed when working with a heavy detailed art that there are multiple sub tools. Did they design them with a base sculpt ( Zsphere ) or design them piece by piece and merge them together later? I guess that would also be in the layers category? I really like the Zsphere method myself because I seem to catch on with that method quick.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Im not an expert on Zbrush too, but i could give you some clarity here because Ive watched a LOT of experts videos already ^^.

The Zspheres are uses most often more to make a good base mesh to start sculpting something on a closer silhouette of what you want. To make fine detailled art out of Zspheres is very difficult in my opinion, it requires a LOT of practice to get along and master zspheres tools on that intent.
About the subtools, almost all your work, if it doesn`t start out of a zsphere structure, believe me or not, it almost allways starts as a sphere :D, then you get moving a little, scuplting with clay, defining bounds with damstandart brush, dynameshing, move a little more, sculpt a little more, dynameshing a lot more until you come along with the shape you wanted or an acceptable one in your opinion, theeeeeen you start separating things in polygroups, dunameshing with groups button on (which will cut you mesh) and start splitting thing up in different subtools, depending on the complexity of your art, and dynameshing again to close the holes and there it goes…

Just watch all the videos on the Zbrush Classroom and you find out what paths you may take to start sculpting o Zbrush, its just a matter of mastering all the tools before linking one to another and be able to make a good strategy to achieve what you have in mind to sculpt. Good luck!
