What causes flat spots on normal maps?

Hello,

I haven’t been able to figure out what cuases flat spots on normal maps. Is it something in the normal map creation settings, or would it be something wrong with my model?

Any tips are most welcome.

In ZMapper increase the Raycasting Max Scan Distance under the Misc tab. A higher value should only increase the calculation time slightly. As the name implies it is only used when calculating a normal map using the raycasting method, as opposed to interpolating. When creating a projected normal map raycasting is always used.
