Weird Grid Pattern Formed Randomly?

Im trying to dynamesh this tool since its too big to put into maya and im going back to fill in some thin mesh parts because it causes some cheddar cheese hole effect. However in this one super thin area, theres this deep hole on the other end and this weird grid pattern forms when i try to smooth or use brushes over it. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hello @Avis_Icarus,

It’s impossible to tell what I’m looking at here. You seem to already be aware that geometry that is too thin or 2d will suffer from Dynamesh “swiss cheese”. If you are trying to Dynamesh a mesh that has geometry like this, you will need to thicken it before using Dynamesh.

In the bottom left corner of your topmost image, it looks like there is an overlapping piece of geometry poking through, but I can’t get any sense of depth from the 2d images.

I have no explanation for the waffle-like extrusion sticking up. Are you projecting the detail from another subtool?

If you’d like, you can contact Pixologic Support and provide the tool file, and we can take a closer look. Trying to make sense of this geometry from still images and second hand information is not going to work well.

Thank you!

@Spyndel I had used extract on like… the top edge of a vase, so the cross section would look like an upside down ‘U’ for reference, very thin and close together.

I just ended up selecting and deleting those areas, because when i tried building them up, it would just accentuate the waffle pattern more. I then just filled the holes and built them up from there.

It now seems to be working normally, but I really dont know what could have caused it.
