Watch me work.

Rick, your revelation almost gave me a bloody heart attacK… I wish to thank you for teaching us.

I do what I do because of your work. Literally. I started learning makeup FX because of American Werewolf. I never did break in to the biz through clay slinging, as I found computers at the same time and helped pioneer effects from that end, but American Werewolf started me out on this path.

I am deeply indebted to you and your work. Even Octaman. That design is SOOO much fun. Again, thanks for teaching us your techniques.

Hey monstermaker, this is looking very very good! I´ll tell you some things that catch my eye and you could probably try to improve a bit the image.
Do not let totally black parts, try to put light all over the figure. You do not need to use full black on the shadow. Probably a hard back light that enriches the silhouete (is that word?) would work good. Also, a lower light makes this model look very good, try to use that to play more with the feeling of fear this emanates.

Maybe use some ambience on the image. Mmmm, some kind of dust over the model would give deep to the canvas.

Finally, some glows on the highlights, noise and dust over it all could improve it all.

Hope that helps. Anyway, a great looking image

Awsome I must say! You’re a great artist!!

Did you render and painted it in Z-brush only?

Very good…

…on thisMaster Class have dispeared?
Some problem to save it ?
Pilou

I knew it !!!
Since your first postI knew it, don’t ask me why… a feeling. Probably your screen name and the subjects you choose to depict.
Anyway, seeing your WIPs on this forum is a bit like watching over your shoulder as you’re working, giving us a chance to see another part of your personality, and it’s bloody impressive.
As some other guys here I’m doing what I’m doing because of you and Mr Dick Smith. Your work has always been a great inspiration for me and today, having a chance to “talk” with you over the internet is almost like dream comes true… amazing  ( Damned! Why didn’t you find the time for that beer  )

Talking about your last update it’s really freaky :+1: :+1: :+1: And having the image straight out of zbrush (the one before) it’s a great way to see the technique you use to finish your image.

Well, once again thank you for sharing this and keep posting…

Dizzy Boy

really great !!!
wonderfull !! eh eh, you are always amazing, my friend
and thx for the step by step :sunglasses: :+1:

Rick, I never posted a critique! DOH! It’s your fault, you blindsided me!

Anyway, I love the painting on the face and hands. I’m still learning to paint skin tones that don’t look too cartoony. Especially the undead colors you used in this one. Also the skin texture is nice too. What material did you use? The material and colors work very well on the hand. It feels very lifelike for a dead guy… You inspired me to paint my hand model…

I’d still love to see a rim light on the left, but that’s just my own preference. The lighting rocks as it is.

The clothing is wonderfully detailed also. It has a nice sense of dry rot.

Either way, as I predicted, it’s my desktop now.

Excellent piece…

Dickie

absolytly amazing as usual…
Superb eye texture, like a zombie…
I also specially love the hands textures… Very nice…

Sorry to be boring, but theres juste ONE thing I could tell, just to be anoying, sorry for that, is the cloth buttons, maybe they could be more “plastic” looking…

Nice image and buttons!

And the disguise comes off!

Really nice work, Rick! It’s nice to see your process. It was brave of you to create an image this way, you never know how it will turn out. It just happened to be one of your best pieces so far. Great eyes.

I look forward to your talk at the Pixologic Siggraph booth…

best

MM, I’m so glad to have you on this forum. I hope you don’t get tired of posting. I know all this takes time, but you’ve taught this group so… much. Thanks again!

EEEERRRRRRRRR’ thats awful, that will give me nightmares tonight! Stop it now, it is finished…superb work

Your work is a constant source of inspiration for me - always when I´m a little uninspired or tired I go check again my old and battle-damaged copy of Cinefex #16

It´s a honor to watch a Master at work, thank you so much for sharing!

sick-o-la … that right hand is off the hook. zbrush him a toothbrush – but don’t let him use it:lol: .

Always a pleasure to see your work man.Outstanding and very inspiring.Thank u for the progress also.Keep it up zmonster;) I can not wait to see more from u.
:sunglasses:

Oh god, no way, is it really you??!

I am in shock as i sit right in front of the computer right now to finally find out the artist behind all this work. I’m glad you made that transition to 3d sculpting with zbrush, that’s killer man!!

I’ve always been a big fan of Planet of the Apes and I am working on Thade right now(already started). Like you, i am a new zbrush user and find that this character would be great to practice my zbrush skills on. I hope you don’t mind as i kindly ask your permission, this is strictly fan art.

its all clear now,
