Warcraft fanart_ orc grunt

Hi Guys,
This is a model I am currently working on for my portfolio. Its an orc grunt from Warcraft. Let me know what you guys think. The areas on the top of the boot without much detail and the loins will be covered with fur.
All c&c is welcome

cal

I am big fan of BLIZZARD too and I must say your work is awesome !

However I would suggest to change furs look . It looks a bit ugly .
I would strongly suggest you to work more on armour . It is very important part of a BLIZZARDs art . I know you could do betetr armour  Your model is very good ! Now for the armour please

By the way in what render did you rendered this skin ? Is it MR 3ds max ?

Awesome! Great work! In a second now I will also be posting Warcraft inspiration model

Hi Guys,
THanks for the feedback.

Darukin: Thanks…looking forward to your model as well

neozerahan: Thanks dude…I will post the torso shots in the next update!

ahtiandr: Thanks for the feedback. It would be great if you could be more specific about the armour. I know some of the armour does not have a lot of detail…but the smaller details and stuff wll come with the progression of the textures. I have reworked the sideburns…hope they look better now.
yeah all the renders are mental ray 3dsmax.

calum5ZB: Hey thanks for the stars man…really appreciate it. The renders are all from mental ray in max.

3DNoobish. Hey thanks dude!!

Just a quick update…fixed the sideburns they were getting really wild in the earlier renders. all feedback is much appreciated

about the armour . Your orc have standard orcish armour .If I am correct you are looking at this armour

This is very standard orcish armour . I haev seen a lot of orcs with similar armour and this makes your art another fan art but you have so good model and if you just change the ammunition you will have unique fan art ! BLIZZARD art is all about weapons  At least I think so because they have so big assortiments of it in World of Warcraft . Different kind of sets . Dungeon set , PVP set and so on . Most of Blizzard fans look at ammunition . I dont want to say your model or armour or design is bad ! You are awesome and you can leave as it is and you will still have 10/10 because from me , but if you want really top row then focus on good armour

I will give you here some examples

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/items/armorsets/images/tier3raid/warrior/orc-male.jpg?rhtml=y

It is not necessary to make all those detail . I think you should not make a helmet because you haev so sweet orcish face and the fur is better now

As you see here the armour plays very massive roel in whole character

And it has even more details than entire character itself

The thing is that you have so so sweet model which should have appropriate armour !

I have also this book

I would like to tell you BLIZZARD rules about art which are written there :

1 Less is NEVER more…
2 Bigger is ALWAYS better
3 All one-handed weapons should be at least as big as two-handed weapons
4 If all else fails , add skulls and spikes and paint red

For The Horde

Samwise Didier

Senior Art Director , Blizzard Entertaiment

And one more thing to mention .

I dont know maybe you know all this stuff maybe not but just in case .
Here are all good armour sets . Just choose orc and any armour set and it will be displayed in different angles
I hope I helped you in some way .
I actually was making just female head but after your WIP I am planning to make my human sorceress . I will just search for appropriate armour and make it and thats all

Very cool! Nice work!

ohh this is looking better! the sideburns are great! ya a shot of him without the armor would be great!!! keep it up!!!

The organic parts - particularly the torso - are very good, I personaly don’t really dig the ‘Blizzard orc’ facial anatomy but that’s just me.

However the armor and the straps are far to simple forms, like they’d belong to a different model. You need to refine their general shapes first, try to imagine how they’re made: using a forge and a hammer to create rough forms.

Then add as much damage and wear and tear as you can - imagine beating it up as hard as possible with a large hammer. Also make sure that the scratches and chipped off paint are logically placed on the armor. Edges and raised areas tend to get most of the damage, whereas recesses accumulate dirt. Creating a cavity map is a good start once you have a good sculpt in Zbrush, then build up your texture with a lot of manual painting - tiling photo textures is not going to do the trick as those won’t follow the shapes of the geometry.

just simply awesome ! ! :+1:

hi, awesome work dude

but the armor is standart armor of the WoW’s orc, maybe you have to visit www.sonsofthestorm.com to see a concept armor from the blizzard artist by youself, btw your orc are look better if you remove the armor, and can i see the wireframe because i wanna study about the orc topology for my college task,
thanks

looking great! I play wow a lot!
keep up with the good job

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the great feedback. Really appreciate it…gives me more motivation to keep improving. ANyways I have changed the armour completely…still adding in some smaller details…and there will be fur on most of the armour pieces…hope this is an improvement.

ahtiandr: Wow…thanks man…gave me some really good feedback…and all points are valid. I still did not want the armour to be the overwhelming focus…in the cinematic most of the orcs are covered with only basic armour…which was what I was shooting for. But your feedback definitely made me have a relook at the armour …hope the new look is better

andy.chen: Thanks for the appreciation dude

3DNoobish: Thanks dude…Hope these renders help!!

LY: Thanks for the detailed feedback man, it really helped. I agree with you about the modeling changes…hope the new armour looks better :)…the textures are just the base…Havent tet actually started texturing the model…I should have been clearer in the post.

Hasnz: Thanks for the appreciation buddy!!

icaruz01: thanks man…yeah I have all the pics from sons of the storm saved…I have changed the armour around…hope the new look works!
I will post the wires soon

neversong2: Thanks buddy…appreciate it!!
