Want to add chains to my character, need advice...?

Thanks for those who have responded to my threads / topics and having patience with a new user using ZBrush!

I am creating a character I imported from Poser to Zbrush. I got texture down pretty good and pretty familiar with the navigation now. I am a fast learner. I have not sculpted anything to my character yet. That is my next step.

I would like to add a set of chains to my character. It is an OBJ file and can be posble. It is posable in Poser. But I would like to learn how to add the chains to my character. Should I be sculpting it onto my character with the use of speheres, squares etc; or can I just add the chains to my character without sculpting? Any advice would be a great help. Thanks!

Use InsertMultiMesh. See post #20 here for a freebie chain InsertMultiMesh. I think there are more chains further on in that thread also.

There are some that I made in that thread in post #61 here.

Thanks! Much appreciated! I’m digging ZBrush a lot now that I am really learning it.

Thanks for the recommendation on my chains brush, zber2! That link doesn’t work any more, though. There is a newer link on page 10, post #142, that still does, however. Happy ZBrushing, Space76Ghost!

I know I am new at Zbrush, but I am frustrated and cannot find the right tutorials with what I am looking for or learning to do. Most of them are too fast and don’t really show you what they are clicking onto or using to manipulate things with.

I finally found a set of chains / brush ( Thank you ) I want to use. My goal is to wrap the chains around the legs, arms and torso of my character. I have Stroke set on ā€œSnap & Bendā€. It snaps to the body fine, but when I go to move the chains it moves off of the body into the scene. Is there a tutorial or easier way to just get the length of the chains to simply wrap around a limb?

Or am I better off sculpting my own chains from scratch with layers etc;?

Thanks for the help!

You probably find newbies annoying, lol.

You might be just trying to do too much at once. The easiest way I found to wrap IMM brush around a cylindrical shape is to have Snap and Bend on and draw a short piece at a time. Keep rotating the view and extending the curve a little piece at a time. The way you extend the curve is, move the cursor close to the end of the curve and you will see a red line snap to the end point. When it does that, keep drawing to add another short piece. Keep doing this a little at a time as you are rotating the view. It also helps to use a small Draw Size on your curve edit cursor (Stroke > Curve Modifiers > CurveEdit Radius). After a while, you’ll get really good at it and find that you can move along quite quickly. You can read more about curve usage in the ZBrush4_R4_whats_new.pdf (pages 20 - 26) in the Documentation folder of your ZBrush directory.

Cool… I’m usually a fast learner. That’s probably why I am getting frustrated quickly. I’m also working with Poser Pro 2014. I am definitely going to check out these suggestions! Thanks a million!

No problem! Glad I could help. :+1:small_orange_diamond:)

Whoo hoo! I finally achieved it!

My next question is how do I add multiple chains?

Great!

Once you are finished with the first curve, click once on the underlying mesh to delete it which will delete the curve but leave the chain on the mesh. This is the same as going to ā€˜Stroke > Curve Functions’ and clicking ā€˜Delete’ button. You will now be ready to draw your next chain.

Awesome… thanks so much!
