Want some opinion on this

Hey all, well i have something playing on my mind a lot lately… am i going to make it in the cg industry? I am a self taught 3d modeler, i am officiant in modeling, lighting, texture and started animation. i have recently started sculpting but i cant seem to sculpt anything i just become blank… i haven’t had any break of getting a job in the industry yet, and its getting me down.

I love modelling and creating stuff, my ideal fantasy would be creating characters and animating them, as i feel that is a really good factor but i hardly know animation, but i am pretty good at modelling.

i recently applied for that advent training, you might of heard of it, and i got in but its web design, but my passion and my dream is in the industry heck i’d even be a tea boy, im just wondering if anyone has any advice, what sections i should aim for and what parts i should learn to get a job in the industry.

im a hard learning and will put 110% into what i do.

Hope someone has some answers as i sure don’t. :frowning:

nexusbird,

Well, as an old guy (47) who has started several successful buisnesses myself, and currently owns one (none of which were 3d related, however current business is definitely art related) I can only give advice in a general sense, not specific to 3d.

In a very short summation:

“NEVER give up.”

If this is your passion, what motivates you and where you envision your life’s direction, then focus on your goals and move forward. Doubts may arise (as I suspect they are now), but do your utmost to brush them aside and commit yourself to what you love: 3d modeling.

Your education, training and experience are all ongoing endeavors which should support your ultimate goal. But if you lose sight of that goal, then everything else crumbles.

“Do what you love, the money will come.” I live by this mantra. And it works.

Lastly, if you have to do other things temporarily (like web design) or whatever, they may become necessary, but keep in mind that even those unsavory tasks are moving you towards your goal by allowing you time to learn and hone your skills.

For what it’s worth.

Thanks for the advice, im trying hard to learn more and get better at what i do but sometimes i think im never gonna be as good as some of the people on here, i mean some people here are really talented and yet half of them dont have jobs in the industry.

more advice:

Stop worrying about others. You don’t know their situations etc. Worry about yourself and moving forward. Nip that in the bud right now…

And if you have any hope of success, then do your absolute best to brush aside the doubts, instead of allowing them to consume your mind. They are a disease and will eat away at you if permitted. Focus, young man. Focus focus focus.

Now get to work.

Hehe, i guess your right too, its nice to get some reassurance from other too thank you mate
