wacom tablets for zbrush…intuos or bamboo?

i already have a wacom bamboo medium [A5] for my quadcore running in a 24" monitor
plus a h.p. tablet pc that has wacom technology

just wondering if the intuos range’s tilting pen capability is used in zbrush or not?

i’m pretty happy with the pressure senitivaty on the bamboo…so what extra’s would an intuos bring for sculpting in zbrush?

Well, for one, the A5’s active area is a little smaller than 6 x 9. I use a 9 x 12 Intuos3 and it provides a much better drawing area. It’s twice as sensitive, which you’ll only notice a little, but way more accurate. The Intuos has a much better digitizer under the pad with twice the lpi, or tablet resolution. That combined with the larger drawing area makes a big difference in the feel of it, much more fluid strokes like real drawing. The tilt function isn’t really used in ZBrush for my workflow. That and extreme sensitivity are more important with digital painting.

If you just get a 6 x 8, you’ll notice twice the accuracy. If you get a 9 x 12, you’ll have about 3 to 4 times the accuracy. If you get a 12 x 19, it’ll be almost as accurate as drawing on your 24" screen with a lead pencil! So the difference is more about precision, not so much the tilting function (with ZB). The sensitivity is better, but 512 levels is still a lot. It’s also more durable and built for pro studios.

Or just get a Cintiq 20WSX and make me REALLY mad at you…

thanks for the advice,

so appears that for myself i’ll stick with my bamboo medium plus my h.p. tablet pc [12.1" screen @ 1200x800 res] until i can 'make you mad’:D…ie get a Cintiq 20WSX…or jump up to a larger than A5 likethe 9x12 or the 12x19

the bamboo for it’s price is really good and doesn’t take over my desk space
…now if i get to where i want a tablet ALL the time then a larger tablet would be the way to go.

have to say the idea of a Cintiq 20WSX is quite apealing as i prefer my tablet pc over a tablet and a pc

actually drawing ‘on the screen’ is so much more intutative even though your hand is there covering up your clear view which you have with a tablet and a monitor.

just hope zbrush 3.5 will have the option for a fully usable u.i. which everything available ‘on screen’ and not tied down to keyboard shorcuts only as we have currently…toonboom studio works 100% tablet pc mode
so all i need is masking/hiding to have actual buttons in the u.i. and i’d be set to go 100% tablet pc…no keyboard needed.

of course Cintiq 20WSX has programable buttons…Hmmm…nice!

just sent you a p.m. of a little trick I have up my sleeve…hope it helps!

nice one!:+1:

i’ll give it a bash after my tea!

I would say the biggest difference are Intous and Cintiq range Express keys and Touch strips. Being able to adjust the size by moving your finger up and down and to assign each key to your preference is big advantage over other tablets

Testing it out in photoshop with a small brush will make the difference more obvious than in zb. I can write tiny words and do small drawing way better than in pen mode.

works nice in pshop and art rage, though has problems in toonboom…the brush seems offset in toonboom…no big deal…

always good to have options!

thank you! :+1:
stee+cats

bamboo fun medium has 4 assignable buttons and a scroll/zoom touch wheel/circle area

wacom rule the roost regards pen tech and tablets…even my h.p. tablet pc is ‘wacom powered’

No problem. During actual workflow, it’ll keep you from zooming in to the point of pixels or holding your nose to the screen!
