Wacom Intuos range, whats the difference?

Hi.

I currently have the Intuos 2 A5. I was thinking of a upgrade, but need to know if im likly to benifit from it.

My main use is Zbrush, and im looking at the Intuos 3 as its priced reasonable second hand. What id like to know is does 3 have any avantages as far as pen, sensitivity, and feel, and how does the extra buttons help?

Thanks.

well I own a Intuos 3 a5 wide,
I never had a intuos 2 so i cant really tell you the difference on the sensitivity part.

but the extra buttons…I only use the strips for scrolling in my browser…(if im too lazy too reach for my mouse:P)

So thats not worth spending about 460€ on…

I don’t recall there being any pressure sensitivity increases going from I2 to I3 (there are in intuos 4 though, so if this is important, you should save for a new tablet).

The major differences going from I2 to I4 are a slimmer, lighter pen design, some new felt pen nibs (which I highly recommend…I suppose they could probably fit in a I2 pen just as easily) an improved, more durable overlay, and the various buttons and strips on the casing from which, your mileage may vary depending on your workstyle.

If your tablet stays constantly rooted off to the side of your keyboard, and you only ever spare a single hand for it, they would probably only be of limited value.

If you’re like me though, and like to prop up your tablet easel fashion, and only go to your Keyboard as a last resort, the programmable buttons and strips become invaluable.

If you’re not going to invest in a new Intuos 4 though, I would say yeah, going from 2 to 3 would be of limited value, and you should save for a new tablet.

Thanks for the info, I think il stick with the I2 for now, and get a new overlay as its scratched quite bad, feels a little rougth.

Thanks.

Good luck with that. When I called to replace my 6x8 I2 overlay a couple years ago, they said they were no longer stocking it, and recommended I go buy a piece of vellum and cut it myself.

That’s another reason I recommend the felt nibs, btw. In addition to a better feel, the don’t scratch your overlay like the plastic ones do when they get friction-sharpened.
