I would like to hear some tips myself, as I can’t seem to get consistent results with vray SSS2. My biggest frustration is with the fine details in the bump/normal maps - they either get washed out by the sss effect or (by tweaking the settings just slightly) they suddenly get very rough.

It’s just a guess but I think the main problem with your rendering is your texture. Skin does not consist of just peach/orange/red. To understand this read this thread and watch the video demonstration

If you just want to render nice skin you might also want to consider mental ray fast skin shader. It’s a bit more intuitive and also has been around for much longer so there are a lot of tutorials and info on it.
Vray SSS2 is very powerful too so if you insist on using it you can definitely get good results if you put in some work!
