Virtual Reality in ZB2

We all love how ZBrush2 let’s you model more like you would play with a ball of clay…wouldn’t it be great if you could see this ball of clay in front of your eyes in VR, and physically mold it with your hands?

This doesn’t do exactly that…but it’s probably as close as you can get right now

Anyway, I just thought it would be a cool idea :stuck_out_tongue:

And furthermore, I don’t think I’d be the only one willing to shell out 2 grand to play around with such a VR toy! It’s not like the technology doesn’t exist for it, the technology to see where your hands are in 3d space exists, and the technology to project it exists (to a limited extent)…so the only really new thing that would need to be made is a driver for the device that is also a plugin to ZB.

(now im sure that youd still want to have a mouse hooked up to do more menu related operations, but for sculpting, you could use your hands)

It is like a virtual walk with the dog while the poor dog has some tubes going into the toilet.

You should be able to get haptic response in that pricerange. VR without is like a 2D mouse without friction. Only, with a third dimension to get lost in. In short, it would be sloppy and unusable.

I’m all about being able to see your work in three dimensions, and manipulate it in realtime as though held in your hand. But I think you’ll want to rotate your model while sculpting it, which means a two handed interface plus hotkeys. (Not to mention that this would never work with Projection Master.)

We’re not going to see that anytime soon. But if ZBrush’s SDK ever comes out, I think we’ll have Spaceball support within the hour.

It's a step in that direction, anyway.
