viewing displacement map in maya viewport?

I sculpted an object in maya and exported to zbrush- sculpted–did a displacmentmap and a bump map and went back to maya.
I can see the map when rendering–but I cant see the displacement map in the viewport(but if I fiddle with hardware texturing settings in the material options I can click on Bump and see that but not the displacement. Is this normal? :o

yes,
you can’t view displacements in the viewport. so if you have large extrusions then you have to do alot of back and forth with the render to make sure your mesh isn’t colliding or passing through these parts.
