Very new user with very basic question (ZBrush 2)

I am new to ZBrush, and I am using version 2 until I upgrade my G5 Mac to an Intel.

First, I am not able to use any strokes or alphas when I am in edit mode.

Second, when I try and choose another tool when in edit mode, ZBrush switches back to drop mode, and then I am no longer able to switch back to edit mode after.

I am not sure if I am explainig this right. I have been watching the online tutorials, but they are all for ZBrush 3.1, and it seems that all brushes, strokes, and tools are accessible in edit mode.

If anyone can help me, that would be great. I am sure there is a simple solution to my problem.

ZBrush 2 has quite a few limitations compared to ZBrush 3. For example, sculpting is quite limited, without the many sculpting brush options. Switch Tools when in Edit mode means that you will switch to one of the 2.5D brushes which can’t be used on your sculpt.

Thanks Marcus. I am starting to realize the limitations of ZBrush 2 compared to 3.1. I am excited to upgrade to a new Mac and strat playing around.

I just found/downloaded the ZBrush 2 practical guide. That should keep me busy for the time being.
