Very Even Sculpting

Hello. I am coming over from Mudbox to Zbrush 4R8. In Mudbox, when I sculpt on the surface of a mesh for a long period of time with one stroke, I am able to make all of the sculpted detail perfectly even and level in that stroke.
In Zbrush I can not seem to achieve this. When I sculpt for a long period of time in one stroke, the surface of the stroke is always slightly lumpy. I can never get it perfectly even or level.
I have checked out multiple options in Zbrush 4R8 to adjust my stroke, but nothing I do seems to work. I use the ‘Standard Brush’ with the Free Hand stroke and I have noticed that there are multiple options for adjusting the stroke, including ‘Spacing’, but ‘Mouse Avg’ is the only option that I can change, all the other options are greyed out (not accessible).
Could any one give me specific information about how to create a very smooth, even stroke with my brushes in Zbrush 4R8? Thank you very much.

not sure exactly what you’re trying to achieve but it sounds like you need to adjust your lazy mouse settings and/or using a morph target in conjunction with a layer brush.
