vertices with 5 edge lines. bad?

hello everyone,

now that i covered my workflow i want to optimize my mesh before adding detail in zbrush.

how bad are vertices with more/less edge lines than 4. i got a couple of them with 3 and a few with 5 and more edge lines.

is that something i get away with?

thanks

You can get away with it, but it can cause dimples to appear in your mesh when divided. Those can be smoothed out afterward, so it’s not a game-breaker. But you are better off trying to avoid such points if at all possible.

thanks!

You’ll never be able to get rid of all of them anyways, but as aurick said try not to have too many of them. It’s more of a hassle when you are doing facial rigging and the vertex doesn’t know where to go, or when you create a blendshape you’ll have a hard time because that vertex is hard to control. Try as much as you can to keep them where there are less deformation.
