Vertex spiking???

Hey all,

Heres the issue:

I have been having verteces “spiking” a lot lately. There doesnt seem to be any one thing that causes it (at least not that I can tell) What happens after they spike is that sometimes it causes my model to zoom way out, so that I can barely see it. On occasion turning off the layer will restore the model, but then I lose all of the work I just did. Most of the time when the models spike it means that a crash is coming soon.

I read a long time ago some sort of work-around that would address this, but was unable to find it when I searched. Does anyone have any idea how to remedy this situation??

Thanks a lot.

P.S. I will try to post a screenshot next time it happens.

this what you mean?

hey spaceboy,

unfortunately no. These spikes are really long, and sharp, more like a line than a spike, and they jut out from the model a great distance. They cause the model to zoom out really far ( my guess is because it is now considering the spike to be the furthest point out on the model, and unlike maya or other programs, you cant rotate “through” the model in zbrush).

I hope this makes sense. I will post some pictures of it next time it occurs.

what you are talking about will usually happen if

  1. your model is too large, go to the tool preview window, your tool should just fit in that window, if not size it down or hit unify
  2. project all was used
  3. projection in retopology.

okay I will try that next time. However, if it was the wrong size, why would it not happen right away, as soon as I created the tool, as opposed to working on the model for a long time and then it happens?

Thanks

it usually pops up once you divide, if size related.

this is also happening to me right now… I am working on my model and there is a spike shooting out of the thumb…this occurs at the highest lvl on my model… lvl 7 and worse off the polypaint darkens on it… :frowning:

and I am afraid to go down a level since i worked on the highest level of sudb to get my textures nice and sharp. Worse thing about this… it affects all of the previous ZTL. I really hope this gets fixed soon.

I recently got a new computer. It blows away my old one, and the model that I was having all of these issues with no longer has any of this occurring. I dont know if that means it’s a ram issue or what.

well, i managed to get away from that spiking which luckily didn’t affect my older saves. but i have had issues where i suddenly lose my uvs after going a round in projection master.
