Variable Polyframe Opacity

I exported a mesh at its highest subdivision as an obj. When I then import this obj and reconstructed its subdivisions to match the original mesh it doesn’t have the variable polyframe opacity which shows up on the original.
Turning the VariablePFO button in the preferences on and off affects the original as expected but has no impact on the imported mesh. Is this correct or am I missing something. Having the full frame at higher subdivision levels is impossible to se your mesh.
The image shows the difference, both meshes at level 3 of 6

Thanks,

First thing I would try would be to reconstruct the lower subdivision. This doesn’t always work, but it will give you less original polyframe lines to start with.

Geometry palette/Reconstruct Subdiv. Make sure you’re at the lowest subdivision level or it will be greyed out.

If that isn’t enough, and nobody else comes in with a better solution and you must absolutely work on this particular mesh, then you can go into Preferences and under Draw you can turn the polyframe opacity down to a very low value so that the dense polyframes won’t obscure surface detail.

Thanks, for the reply,
I was trying to get around a problem with my layers panel being all greyed out (no way to create a new layer at any subd level), but I eventually figured out a way around this with the original mesh so I don’t now need to use the imported obj mesh. I’d encountered this issue before so I was hoping that there was a simple solution if I ever have to use one of these meshes. It just seemed weird that the preferences setting didn’t seem to impact this mesh. but did the orginal
