UVs in Max and ZBrush

Fellow ZBrush users,

I am quite new to ZBrush and am struggling at the moment.
I have created a gun in 3DS max, and exported it as an OBJ into ZBrush. I don’t think that the UVs were unwrapped before I imported it. I have detailed the gun in ZBrush and am trying to export it back into Max. Is it possible to assign the UVs, texture map and normal map in ZBrush and then export it as an OBJ into 3DS Max? Or, should I set up all the UV mapping in Max before exporting it into ZBrush it?

I apologize for the inexperience.

Spencer

Hi, not necessarily.

  • Just take your tool to the level 1 division.

  • Then export it as an .obj.

  • Now you can rebuild your UVs in any uvmapper software, of this .obj file, i recommend UV LAYOUT from HEADUS cause this one makes fun the Uv mapping task and gives you the cleanest results you will ever see.

  • With your new uvs done open your full res tool (your gun) and take it again to the level 1 division.

  • Import the new uv mapped .obj.

  • done, your full-res gun will be updated with the new mapping info.

    Any question, just ask.
