uvmaster protect/attract reversed

I’ve just used UV master on a simple cylinder and the seams have appeared in the exact opposite areas defined by the control painting. It’s consistent behaviour as I’ve ended up switching the protect/attract areas to get the result I want.

I’m thinking it may be a brush modifier I’ve turned on. Any ideas?

thanks

pics or it didn’t happen.

seriously though, can you post up your UV paint, the seams, and the resulting UVs?

It doesn’t ‘seam’ so now I’m afraid - the control painting’s disappeared off the clone, and there’s no point in posting just the result. I had another batch of problems with another object - the polypaint from the original was colouring the low-poly clone when I turned on control painting; a restart of zbrush fixed things though and it worked perfectly after. I’m assuming the two (control and normal painting) are closely linked…

I’ve just started the unwrapping on a duplicate of the problem object and the exact same thing has happened – the seams are nowhere near. I’ve just used uvmaster on a different object and it worked fine. so it seems it may be the object??

eh…she’s a mysterious woman that UV master…

Actually, you’re not building the exact seams for the mesh…more giving it suggestions as to where you would like things, doesn’t mean that it works every time.

That’s true. But you’d think, if you’ve painted a big red square on one side of a simple piece of geometry, it wouldn’t put what’s pretty much the only seam it needs slap down the middle of it…
