UV size issues

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding an issue with UV’s in Zbrush 4.

I have created a plane with floor detailing within Zbrush with 9 active points on lowest subdiv and 4.1 million on the highest. I then created multiple layers defining layers of stone depths on highest subdiv to later make a normal map from.

When I created the plane in ZBrush it did not come with ready UV’s, as all was greyed out in the UV Map section. So I hit GUV Tiles and created a new texture of 2k to bake my normals on, to later set up with my lowest subdiv plane.

However when I create the GUV Tiles (this seemed to be the only one placing the UV’s in a logical layout) and hit new from UV Check. The plane does display correctly, but only occupying a 256 within the 2k resolution space?

I set everything to 2k in the new texture as well as in the UV Map size.

I tried using UV Planar as I thought this would be the most logical option for a square plane?

Not sure what I’m doing wrong so any help would really help set me up for the next part of the tutorial.

Cheers,

I think I figured it out just after posting this.

I checked all the UV mapping options except for one I forgot to check with. I used the PUVTiles UV Map option which used up all the resolution space available. I then created a new texture from UV check which I could then make a normal map from. Make sure to untick SmoothUV in the normal options as this will stretch 2 sides of the normal map.

Still a bit baffled as to how these UV mapping work and not sure why the planar mapping does not do what I thought it would.

Anyways if anyone thinks I’m doing it the wrong way please let me know. Otherwise if anyone runs into this problem they can use this as a guide.

Cheers
