UV master (before or after) - answered

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to using UV master before or after sculpting (or on your final sculpt)? (Or just doing UVs period before or after)?

thx

UVs are only necessary if you want to create maps of some sort, such as texture or displacement maps. They don’t play any part in sculpting, unless you want to save out a mask as an alpha using the Tool>Masking>Create Alpha button. So it doesn’t matter too much when you create the UVs, especially if you are creating your model in ZBrush and will then exporting it to your other app.

Some people will create the base mesh in another app, and assign UVs before importing into ZBrush. But again, this isn’t necessary as UVs can be assigned (or re-assigned) at any stage of the workflow.

A friend of mine told me that when working with a lot of subtools, and a lot of polys, the UVs make your model heavy to manage by your system.
I mean, if you delete the UVs it will be easier to work on…
I havent tested this yet, so i cant confirm!

pimeto,

That’s quite likely. Any data that needs to be kept in memory or processed will impact on performance.

Thx
