UV maps for a full body model??

Hello,

I’m pretty new to texturing, and I am trying to texture a full body character, with a good amount of detail in the face. I know I can have separate maps for the eyes and clothing, but what about the face, arms, hands, legs, and body? Since this is all one object, how do you lay out the UVs to texture it all? If you only used one map, I imagine a spherical UV map would look really strange (given all of the geometry), hard to follow, and limited by the resolution of the map (typically, I heard, maps should be 1024x1024 at max, but idk).

So my question is how do you texture an entire body using multiple UV maps. Or, how can you just use 1 UV map for the face, a different one for the hands, a different one for the body, etc.

Thanks

It depends on whether you want to do your mapping in ZBrush or another app. If you want to assign the mapping in another app, the instructions would depend on that program. To do it in ZBrush, split your model up into a separate SubTool for each map. Then you can assign UV’s to each SubTool and create textures for each.
