UV Mapping Help

I am currently studying animation at university and for one of our courses we have to design a 3d character, now i have made the model and put it into 3ds studio max, but now i need to unwrap the model so that i can add textures to it, but im having massive problems when i unwrap it and i cant seem to get the uv map flat so i am able to work on it further, i have included a picture of my model in max below and what i have got so far, any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks, Macclad17

This is actually a question about how to use Max instead of ZBrush. I’m afraid I can’t really help with answering directly.

Personally, I would do the unwrap in ZBrush instead, using UV Master – which is free as well as being really easy!

Hi , you first need to cut your geo along the under sides , like it was a plastic bag. Along a seam, preferably under the arms and inside of the legs.
Right now Max has laid it out as you have cut it.

Max has a great pelting tool for this.

You might want to start with the Help files under pelt mapping.

If you youtube it this will also give you great visuals.

Learning to UV map is a slow and pain in th ebutt process for everyone.

i have used uv unwrap in zbrush and thats worked but how do i then use that to generate textures in max because i wanted to work on the model in photoshop to create realistic textures.

Also i have looked into pelt mapping but it just seems to scrunch the whole of my uv map together and make it all on top of eachother.

Like BldRnr said, you need more seams for it to unwrap properly. Like down the length of the legs and arms, the back of the torso, the top and back of the head.

Here is a Video tutorial on Unwrapping a Character for Texturing in 3DS Max

If you use UV Master plugin, then watch UV Master tutorialsin ZClassroom on how to use it.

thanks for all the replies, i have used the uv master plug in in zbrush and this is the result that i have got.
