UV issues

I’m using Zbrush to make UVs (I have the most experience with this program). I used UV master to set up the seams and it looked fine. I just now find out that something was wrong with them and I have to redo it.

So, I went back into UV master and made a new set, it looks different this time, but has everything so I’m happy. However, the map appears to be huge. When I first clicked flatten, the screen was blank. I had to hit Frame to be able to see the map. I go to export the texture map with the Multi Map Exporter and click estimate time, and it tells me it will take 106 mins. The original took 3 minutes. What’s with this sudden jump? Does it have to do with the size of the map? Is there some way for me to make the map smaller?

[Edit]
I should mention I’ve already polypainted on it, since I thought I had it UVed correctly.

Also, right now it’s taking my guy and just flattening him out. He has some long legs though (he’s basically a giant spider). Would I be able to make seams that would cut the legs from the rest of the map? I think that would help save on space.

I managed to figure out one way to fix it. I went through and made some more poly groups, and made UVs based on those groups. For some reason that allowed the map to fit within the bounding box.

If anyone knows why it exploded in the first place, I’d love to know why so I can avoid it in the future.
