UV import crash issue

So I’ve done some thorough scouring this afternoon of the forums, but I’m on the clock atm and if someone can figure out this problem I’d be really relieved.

I’m having a similar issue it seems to many people of when you try to import the level 1 division that’s been UV’d, ZBrush crashes. I have a polypaint I’ve done, and I can export it and everything using ZBrushes GUV and AUV, but if I try to bring in UV’s as an import I can’t get it to work.

I am running on a powerful system, winxp 64, zbrush 3.1, and UV’ing using Maya 2009.

What I’ve found in the forums is this: In Maya, make sure that Create Multiple Objects is turned off in the Import options.

But this solution hasn’t fixed my problem. 2009 doesn’t even seem to have that exact option, they just have a radio button that says single object or multiple object and theres a check box underneath for multiple to “Use Legacy vertex ordering.”

I’ve tried importing the level 1 division mesh both single object and multiple object (though I assumed multiple was wrong) and tried it both with and without legacy. I’ve tried multiple UV layouts. All of which make zbrush crash after only moments of calculation. I’ve got the imported mesh to actually import if I lower the max divisions to 6 instead of 8, but the verts come in exploded so I know there has to be a vert ordering issue. I’m completely stumped, I’ve gone back to all the polypaint tutorials just to make sure I wasn’t forgetting a step or something and that doesn’t seem to be the case either. Is there something different with maya 2009 I’m not aware of? I just need some help so I can get this texture finished.

i have the same issue. and to test it out …i took my ztool down to level 1, then i exported it, i did nothing to the exported obj, then just imported it again after exporting…crash. whats up with this???

its pretty frustrating to spend hours on something as simple as getting my uvs in the program.

after checking the forums a bit more thoroughly i’ve found that it may have something to do with the compact memory, or memory settings,

so the way i’ll try to get around it is…to simply delete the highres levels…and project the details later after i get my UVs in.

but low and behold…i find another problem…which could have something to do with the original problem…when i export my tool as an obj…then just open it up…its inside out…even though all my settings have all flip options off…

little help…please…

ok so here i am again,

no matter what i do when i export from this file it becomes flipped…with the “flip” box clicked or unclicked, either way my model comes in inside out.

please help

after more troubleshooting, it is something with the file that i’m working on, i dont have a clue why its screwing up.

the only thing i did besides sculpt on it was delete lower levels, apparently this may have screwed it up.

I tried the same process with other models with no problems.

just gonna resculpt it…

Ya I had to finish my model that day, so I just used the AUV tiles. Kinda stinks, and I wonder if it is a Maya 2009 issue, a Zbrush issue, or the fact that I’m using it on xp 64, but if anyone ever figures out whats up with this problem, it would be nice to know.
