UV coordinates?

Hello everyone,

I am having difficulty with importing OBJ files with texture coordinates and texture maps in v 1.23. When the object is imported and I place it in the workspace the texture map does not show up on the object. I am able to reassign UV coordinates using the cylindrical / planar / spherical options, and assign a texture once I load it in the texture palette, and the texture does appear on my object, but not the way it should, of course!
I have looked back through other posts in ZBrush Central, but did not find any tips that helped with my problem, although there were quite a few posts relating to it.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried rotating the texture using ‘FLPV’ ‘FLPH’ and ‘ROT’ in the Texture Palette to allign the texture correctly on the object? Does this solve your problem?

Hi,

As long as the OBJ has viable UV information embedded there should be no problem. I always have to invert the imported map in the textures window. Post a pic of whats happening and we can see if we can help further.

Where is the OBJ from (What software?).
Is it from UVmapper? If so did you re-save the Model with new co-ords?

Hi,
This may be really obvious but are you reasigning the texture to the object on import?
Import the obj file simply brings in the object with its UV intact… You then need to load the image map into a texture slot and assign that texture to the object. It only assigns one texture per object and areas which have not been assigned uv coordinates are coloured by the pixel in the upper LH corner of the image map.
It works every time for me.

Thanks for the suggestions all.

I have tried rotating / flipping the textures in the textures palette. This does indeed result making the texture visible on the object; however, the orientation is incorrect.

I also tried changing the orientation of the object in the tools - modifiers palette.

None of the combinations of rotating / flipping the texture and rotating object were successfull.

I have just downloaded UV Mapper, and it indicates a problem with the texture coordinates on the object.

The funny thing is that the texture displays correctly on the object in the application 3D Explorer, where I translated the original OBJ with JPG texture, to OBJ with BMP texture for use with ZBrush.

I’ll play around with UV Mapper to see if I can correct it. I’ll let you know…

Chrisd…Something maybe happening to your convert proccess. Maybe in 3d Exploration you didn’t checked something which may say something like “keep uv mapping coords in conversion” ? I say this because majority of 3d translators or 3d programs do have this option…it maybe unchecked.

That could be the reason why it was seen with texture in 3d Exp and not after converted in Zbrush. As I have seen in this forum (I am in the proccess of buying Z , so yet I don’t know) Zbrush leaves UV info intact…so…it is a matter of converter 3d Exp. But surely that thing is unchecked on save dialog. Or your 3d package where you modelled the object is not really assigning uv info into the model…no…because u would have never see the texture fitting the object…

Also ensure in your modelling software, in save as dialog, that “export uv coords” -or however it calls it- is also checked .

Er…if you choose to apply a new mapping proyection in Zbrush (cilindrical or whatever) …I don’t know yet a word bout Zbrush, but you , as in any 3d, would be destroying previous uv coords.

re-save in 3d Exploration (from original model) checking that what I say…perhaps is the best bet.

Hope it helped some way.
