Using ZBrush with two tablets

I’ve done a search but can’t find an answer to my particular query. I have two tablets, a Cintiq and an Intuo3, both plugged in at the same time.

The problem I have is that Zbrush seems to sense the Intuos ok, but does some weird behaviour on the Cintiq (ie some brushes are reversed, push instead of pull, or just don’t behave correctly).

So, will Zbrush only work with one tablet correctly? If I unplug the intuos before loading the program, then plug it back in once Zbrush is running, the effect is reversed. Then the Cintiq works fine, but the Intuos behaves oddly.

This is the only program I have that doesn’t work with multiple tablets, although I know this isn’t the only program in the world not to. Just seems weird as it is a professional app. Is it just me, or this is just how it is?

You need to hit Aurick with that question in the Questions and Answers Forum.

What operating system are u using?

I experienced the same problem, I found setting the Cintiq as the primary monitor solved the pen problems with ZBrush. However it introduced another problem; my other displays would not fire up correctly on boot and needed to be cycled off then on to get them to display and after long inactivity when they came out of standby they would flicker and then not display requiring cycling them off/on (sometimes several times) to get them to display. I have the latest drivers for both my video cards and tablets. Not wanting to constantly deal with that I set everything back; my dual monitors as numbers 1 and 2 and the Cintiq as number 3.

I moved ZBrush to my Cintiq and saved the configuration so it would open always on the Cintiq. I reinstalled my Intuos 3 and the Cintiq and reloaded drivers etc. as if getting the tablet and Cintiq for the first time. Now all appears to function correctly with ZBrush on the Cintiq.

Now comes the big test of rebooting the system, I will post an EDIT if this solves the problem or will ask for help if it does not.

EDIT

EUREKA (I hope that’s spelled correctly) That is the solution! (at least it appears that way).

  1. Move ZBrush to the Cintiq and save the configuration.
  2. Uninstall the Wacom driver and uninstall the Cintiq Display
  3. Shut down your system and unplug the tablet and the Cintiq USB cable.
  4. Boot your system and reinstall the Cintiq as a display per wacom install instructions.
  5. Plug in your tablets and then install the Wacom Drivers.

Now when you open ZBrush it will open on the Cintiq and the brushes work properly. I have not tested openning ZBrush on the other monitors as the Cintiq is where I want to work.

EDIT

The monitor issue I mentioned above was not directly related to ZBrush; it was more a result of monkeying around with trying to set up the monitors. I have resolved that issue and the solution I outlined is valid.
