Using Zbrush for 2d

Hi there, can anyone point me , towards tutorial, or example images , or videos, using zbrush with 2d painting. I know how to use zbrush, I have being messing around with it since 2003. Lately I have taken 2d painting seriously and I was wondering how well would zbrush play with GIMP and Photoshope for 2d art.

I remembe that in the past I have seen artist combing the two together. By the way , I am not looking for a way to mix 3d art with 2d art, I have no issues in that area as I know pretty well the 3d part of zbrush. Its the 2d part that I dont know so well and was wondering how well zbrush would play with GIMP and Photoshop and whether there is some advice guidelines I should follow.

For now I use GIMP, but I am considering along the road to move to Photoshop and then buy Zbrush for mac, as the version I used to own was zbrush for windows and now mac is my only platform.

Thanks for any assistance.

ZBrush is a great addition to the 2d workflow. Try the deco brush with different alphas, textures, materials, etc. Load up your lightbox library and go to town. The 2.5d canvas is extremely versatile.

Some notes -

When importing an image into ZBrush from another 2d app, first resize the canvas to the exact same pixel dimensions, and also select the flat material with white as the color. Document>import

When exporting out of ZBrush, the image file will not be color managed with a profile. For instance, I paint in Adobe RGB 1998. In photoshop, you can reassign the profile under edit>assign profile. The color remains perfect no matter how many times you jump back and forth.

And try the paint stop plugin. It’s a gem. Have fun :+1:

Thanks for your advice and reply.I will keep it in mind. I am shocked that you are only one that replied. It seems Zbrush is not used as much for 2d as I thought.

Meats’ ‘ZBrush for Illustration’ is a great way to really get familiar with the 2D side of things.

Good luck, and have fun

Don’t forget about PaintStop.

Thanks bart , will watch it now.

Thanks. Hey I remember this when it was just a script distributed freely, did not know it was so much developed. Nice. Is it still free ? Or I need to buy it seperately ?

Free plugin @ download center. Really a great addition to z, the brushes and textures are nice
