Using Wings 3d to Create Polygroups (Solved)

Original “How?” post deleted: Answer/Solved by Jmeyer:+1:

Hi,
if you want to get polygroups in ZB just select the polys
you want to be in that specific group and assign a material
in wings (face mode->right click material etc) repeat that
for the other desired groups with different materials, export
to ZB and you should have polygroups.
Hth,J.

For better UV mapping feature and editing, I recommend the free Blender.org it has all the standard features and more. Though the navigation is a bit awkward but it is worth the effort just to get the best out of UV mapping.

If you prefer Windows like navigation, Use trueSpace 7.6 and create or edit your OBJ model in the “Workspace” but import & export in the “Model” interface.

Took me a minute or so to sort your directions out.

Real quick for anyone else reading.

Select the face or faces you want on the object. Right Mouse click on the selected face/faces for the drop down menu. Highlight “Material”. Right Mouse click to assign a new material. Name it whatever you want. Rinse and repeat for each new group of face/faces you want to create a new polygroup for.

You can click on “Window” on the main toolbar layout resting above the view port window and select “Outliner” to see and edit these material selections.

One more quick question though. I can not find a color change option in the material selection menu. It would be nice to visually tag those selected faces with simple colors so I can keep track of my material groups while editing the model.

Thanks so much for this info. Nice to finally have absolute control over polygroups, and the ability to re edit some of my low ZB created objects topology with a polygon mesh modeler.

Awesome:cool:

nevermind…i see you already know how to assign colors to polys in wings…sorry

After you have named your new material and clicked ok
another window should pop up (see attachment) just click
on the white square next to diffuse and another window
pops up and presents you with different color sliders.
You should be able to find your way from there,i guess.
