Using Windows Recent Items, How?

I want to take advantage of Windows Recent Items option. I used to be able to do this when I had only one version of ZBrush on my computer. Now, Windows seeks the ZBrush 4 version rather than the current 4r5. Is there a way to safely do this? Can I delete the previous versions without the current version being affected?
Thanks,
Katherine Dewey

I tiptoed through the registry and changed some entries on my machine. ZB4R5 will launch now on a ZBrush file.

Click on the Start button and, in the Recent Programs list, right click on “ZBrush 4R4” and click on “Properties” from the menu. On the “General” tab, change “ZBrush 4R4” to “ZBrush 4R5”. Next, click on the “Shortcut” tab and, in the “Target:” box, change “ZBrush 4R4” to “ZBrush 4R5”. All you should have to do is change the "4"to a “5” in “4R4”)
Also, in the “Start in:” box, change “ZBrush 4R4” to “ZBrush 4R5” then click “Apply” at the bottom. Now, when you click on the Recent Programs item, it will open ZBrush 4R5 instead of ZBrush 4R4.

You can also just place a shortcut on your desktop to access it quickly.

I’m running Windows 7, but it’s about 3 years old. Don’t have a Recent Programs list, and under default programs for specific extensions, the only option given is ZBrush Executable, no versions given. When I browse through my computer for other versions, that’s all there is–ZBrush Executable. You’ve given me a clue; Thanks, I’ll keep looking.

Try right clicking a project file, select open with, then navigate to ZB4R5. Check always use this program.

Create a Desktop Shortcut in Windows 7

  1. Right-click on your Windows 7 Desktop. This will bring up a menu.

  2. Hover over the the “New” option, and then click on “Shortcut.” This will bring up the “Create Shortcut” wizard.

  3. Click on the “Browse” button and navigate to the program you want to have a shortcut. Click on the program and then on the “OK” button. This will bring you back to the “Create Shortcut” wizard with the location of the program entered. Click on the “Next” button.

  4. Type in the name you would like the shortcut to have and click the “Finish” button.

The problem is that my only choice is ZBrush Executable and that brings up ZBrush 4, currently inactive since the upgrade. In fact, it asks me to activate it (Zbrush4) even though the execute file is in the ZBrush4r5 folder. I already have ZBrush 4r5 on the desktop. I simply want to click a tool in the Recent Items pulldown and go directly to ZBrush 4r5 with that tool immediately available. I want to skip a step. I could do this prior to the upgrade.

Thanks for your efforts in trying to help me. I had problems installing the upgrade. Perhaps that is where the trouble resides. I’ll keep experimenting.

That is why I am still on Windows Vista. Windows 7 was supposed to be more user friendly… I didn’t like that.

The Registry Editor is what I used. Went through and searched for ZB4 and changed a lot of the entries to ZB4R5. Not all of them though, I was selective.
