Using Subtools as Placeholders?

Is it possible to swap out currently positioned subtools with another tool? For instance, I want to detail the surface of a machine with different mechanical subtools that I haven’t finidhed yet. Can I place something temporary like a cube or a sphere to mark those positions and then swap them out with the final mechanical subtool (so that the subtool I want to use is already positioned)?

Thank You

I can’t think of a way off hand to do that. You could use the subtool as a placeholder, but you’d still have to manually move the new piece to match its position.

aurick is correct, but one way which might work is if you use the same base geometry for both objects. so a cube as a placeholder then when you sculpt your object it too has to have started from that same cube, you should then be able to select your placeholder, divide to the same subdivision number and then import your sculpted model. i’m tired so if this is incorrect i apologize.

well, thanks anyway. I’d love to see the Subtools palette feature a “Replace” button that allows you to swap out a currently selected subtool for another mesh loaded into the tool palette using currently active Subtools’s position, scale, and rotation values.
