Using lights with Matcap, and anti aliasing

Hey all.

I’m kinda new to Zbrush, and already in love.

I modeled a human body while learning the software, and I bumped into a couple of questions I needed to ask.

1st, I noticed you can’t control lights while using matcaps. I can add lights when using standard materials, but when I choose a matcap, it doesn’t work. Is there a way to make it work?

2nd, I also noticed my models are very aliased when I export them after rendering. I tried increasing anti aliasing and what not, but nothing works.
At once point I heard you can use a larger document and render it using the half size, anti aliased preview - but is this really the only way?

Thanks in advance!

matcap materials do not work with lights.

when you render your models use BPR that has AA on by default.

The only way is to control the matcap itself with … Photoshop !
Make a search, maybe with marcus civic about it. I’m pretty sure he’s the one who knows it. I did use it for try but not into my projects yet but It’s quite easy and relatively fast in fact. But each time you want to change the lights you have to make a new matcap. This way you can even put 3 or more lights

So basically I need to capture a material that’s lit the way I want the final result to be.

That means matcaps won’t work with subsurface as well, right?

Also - the anti aliasing built within the BPR doesn’t seem to work. Am I doing something wrong?
