Using fibermesh to create low-poly hair?

I was fiddling with the fibermesh preview settings and a thought cross my mind of the possibility to use fibermesh to create low-poly hair. By using a plane, I made a tuft of hair for a texture (BPR with black color filter).

I then had to create multiple fibermeshes with the coverage set to large values and all the twist and flare values to 0. The reason for multiple meshes is because the planes stay uniform with their orientation. If you want planes to be more parallel with the sides of the head, tilting the head back and playing with gravity will do the trick but throw off the hair on the scalp. It’s a real ugly example, I know, but I posted this as more a proof of concept rather than polished design. I figure this might be helpful to someone willing to put further experimentation into it. See what you guys think, yes?
