Urgent! ZBrsuh crash has made the 'Edit' button non functional

Hi everyone

ZBrush quit on me as I was saving a project. I am able to load the project again but the ‘edit’ button is ghosted now and I am unable to continue working on the model.

It wasnt saved as a tool so I cant draw it out on the canvas again.

Please tell me there is a way around this problem!

Is there no tool in the Tool palette? And do you use QuickSave at all?

Thanks for replying Marcus

There is a tool in the tool palette but its a version of the OBJ as it was originally imported so when I draw it onto the canvas it has no sculpting details on it.

I have got into the habit of ‘Control S’ to save my project as I work. I raely use the Quicksave button.

Unless you have turned off Auto Save, it would be worth checking the QuickSave tab in Lightbox, in case you have a usable project there.

The other thing you might try is turning on Preferences>Undo History>Skip Loading before loading the project again, to see if that solves the problem.

Also, if you can upload the project somewhere I would be happy to take a look, just in case I can help (but don’t hold your breath!).

Thanks for the considered response and the offer to take a look for me Marcus.

I actually spent this morning re sculpting the detail from the version before the crash happened.

I did try your other solutions just to see if they would work but alas, that project wouldnt recover.

You live and learn…the hard way…

Hmm, that’s a shame…

Because ZBrush pushes any system to its limits it’s a good idea to save different versions of a project, rather than saving over the same file. Also, if disk space is limited, you can turn off undo history in the File menu, which will greatly reduce file size, and also simply saving the selected model through the Tool palette uses even less space.

I think the loss of my work would have been greater if I hadnt been saving multiple files so I guess I got off lightly in some ways.
I only had to go back one version but it was a mornings work.

I had noticed that the file sizes are huge so I’ll give your undo history tip a go.

Thanks again Marcus
